Why the Valley Works for You

We've spent time walking these trails ourselves. That's how we know which benches have the best shade, where the softest surfaces are, and which routes won't leave you exhausted. The valley's been here for thousands of years. Now you can enjoy it at your own pace.

Natural Beauty

Prairie wildflowers, river views, and quiet spaces that feel far from the city.

Rest When You Need It

Benches placed at regular intervals. Shade when it's hot. Spots to just sit and breathe.

Easy to Navigate

Clear paths, practical information, no surprises. You'll know what to expect.

How to Plan Your Visit

Simple steps to make the most of your time in the valley.

1. Choose Your Route
2. Check the Weather
3. Bring What You Need
4. Take Your Time

Choose Your Route

We've mapped three main routes ranging from one to three kilometres. If you're new to the valley, start with the prairie meadow walk. It's gentle, has plenty of benches, and you'll see wildflowers most of the year.

Check the Weather

The valley's beautiful year-round, but conditions change fast. Spring can be muddy. Summer brings sun and occasional afternoon wind. Fall's dry and cool. Winter requires different shoes. Check a few hours before you go — that's all you need.

Bring What You Need

Water, a hat, comfortable shoes with good grip. If your knees don't like slopes, we've noted which routes are flattest. Binoculars if you want to spot birds. A camera if that's your thing. Nothing fancy — just what makes you comfortable.

Take Your Time

There's no schedule here. Sit on a bench for twenty minutes if you want. Stop to look at something interesting. The valley isn't going anywhere. Most people spend two to three hours. Some take longer. That's the whole point.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the easiest route for first-time visitors?

The Prairie Meadow route is our most popular starting point. It's mostly flat, about two kilometres, and has benches every 300 metres or so. You'll get a real sense of the valley without overextending yourself. Most people take about an hour, but there's no rush.

Are the paths suitable for people with limited mobility?

It depends on your specific needs. The prairie meadow route is relatively flat and has solid surfaces. The other routes have some slopes. We've documented specific details about surfaces, grade, and rest points in each guide. That way you can decide what works for you before you go.

What time of year is best?

Honestly, it's beautiful year-round, but for different reasons. Spring's wet and green. Summer's warm but can be windy. Fall's our favourite — cool, dry, and the colours are incredible. Winter's quiet and peaceful if you don't mind cold and need proper boots. Each season guide covers what to expect.

Do I need to bring anything special?

Not really. Good shoes with decent grip help. A hat for sun. Water if you're walking more than an hour. A light jacket — weather changes fast in the valley. Our planning guide has a complete list of what makes the experience better without being necessary.

Are there parking and facilities nearby?

Yes. We've included parking information and details about nearby facilities in our planning guide. You won't be left guessing. The valley's close to the city but feels far away — that's part of what makes it special.

Can I bring my family with young kids?

Absolutely. The routes are gentle and safe. Kids often enjoy exploring at their own pace. We'd suggest the prairie meadow route if they're young. Parents with strollers sometimes manage it, though the terrain's not perfect for them. Our guides note surface types so you can decide what's right for your situation.
